More details of the March 2006 expansion were unveiled. Along with selling came a new name for hotel, which was now 'South Point'. On October 24 of 2006, Boyd Gaming sold the South Coast to Michael Gaughan due to the company being unhappy with the resort's first year of operation. This included a new addition to the hotel tower, more casino space, restaurants, a new poker room and more conference space.Īt one point in 2006, the arena was converted into the 4,500-seat South Coast Equestrian Center, the first equestrian center in a resort and casino in Las Vegas history. On March 3, 2006, Boyd Gaming announced that an expansion of the South Coast would be undergoing. The towers, each containing 660 rooms, were fully finished in mid-2005.

However, some of the resort's interior were still in the works, and the other half of the hotel tower were still incomplete.

A 4,330-seat arena was also planned for the resort as well, which was also approved my the commission.īoyd Gaming opened the 1,320-room South Coast on December 25, 2005, containing 80,000 square feet of casino space. On December 18, 2003, the County Commission gave zoning approval for a new 2,139-room Southern California-themed resort and casino named 'South Coast'.
